  • What exactly is aquatic physiotherapy?
    Aquatic physiotherapy is another term for hydrotherapy. It is therapeutic exercise in a pool under the guidance of a chartered physiotherapist. Aquatic Physio Ireland run small group classes in a pool where you get an opportunity to enhance your recovery by exercising in water in a low impact environment. This allows you to move more freely with less pain.
  • Is this similar to aqua aerobics?
    No, it is not the same as aqua aerobics as these classes are run by a fully qualified chartered physiotherapist, who is also trained in aquatic physiotherapy (hydrotherapy). The knowledge and experience of the physiotherapist ensures that the exercises are specific to your needs and safe for you to complete taking your condition/complaint into account.
  • Do I need a referral letter from my doctor?
    Aquatic Physio Ireland accepts referrals from doctors, physiotherapists and other allied healthcare professionals. You may also refer yourself if you feel aquatic physiotherapy may be of benefit to you. A referral letter is not always required but if a question of your suitability arises during the pre-screening process, a letter of suitability may be requested from your doctor prior to starting a class.
  • Do I need to be able to swim?
    No, you do not need to be able to swim. The pool water is 1.2 metres deep, which means you can stand with your feet on the ground throughout the class. You will never be out of your own depth in the water. You will not be asked to put your head underwater.
  • I have a fear of water. Are these classes still suitable for me?
    Yes these classes are suitable for individuals who may have a fear of water. Just let your aquatic physiotherapist know and she will ensure that you are comfortable in the water. Again you will never be out of your own depth in the water and you will not be asked to put your head in the water.
  • Is the class suitable for someone in their 80's?
    Yes the class is suited for people of all ages. The physiotherapist will tailor the exercises to your individual needs and capabilities ensuring that you exercise in a safe and age appropriate way.
  • What should I bring to the class?
    You need to bring your swimwear, a swim hat, flip-flops, a towel , a small bottle of water and a small padlock if you wish to use a locker in the changing room.
  • Are there steps leading into the water or do I need to use the side ladder?
    You enter the pool via steps. There is also a side handrail to hold, if you so desire.
  • What type of exercises will I do in the class?
    You will do a variety of different exercises during the 60 minute class. You will do some stretching exercises, strengthening exercises, core stability exercises, balance exercises and aerobic (fitness) exercises. These will be tailored to your individual needs and capabilities
  • Does my health insurance cover the cost of these classes?
    You may be entitled to claim some of the cost of the aquatic physiotherapy classes from your private health insurance but this depends on the private health insurance policy you have. If your private health insurance covers physiotherapy visits as part of everyday medical expenses, then you are entitled to claim back physiotherapy costs
  • Can I claim tax relief for the cost of these classes?
    Yes you may claim tax relief in respect of the cost of these classes as they are run by a chartered physiotherapist and as such are regarded as physiotherapy treatment. All you need to do is complete a Med 1 form.
  • Do we have to pay for parking?
    No, all clients will recieve FREE parking compliments of Aquatic Physio Ireland. Parking tickets will be validated after each class. If you do not wish to drive, a well-serviced public transport terminus (DART and Dublin bus) is only a 4 minute walk away from the hotel.
